Pacific Strategy Partners

Non-Profit

We have a long standing interest in using our skills in fact-based analysis, which we apply to the business problems facing a select group of Australian NGOs, specifically the NSW and SA Cancer Councils.

Pacific Strategy Partners is also a sponsor of the Stanford Australia Foundation Scholarship, providing opportunity for Senior Executives in the Australian non-profit sector to undertake further study at the Centre for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Our Experience

The Cancer Council NSW (TCCN) and The Cancer Council SA (TCCSA)

Since 2004 we have worked on a wide range of projects for The Cancer Counil New South Wales and more recently, for The Cancer Council South Australia. Specific project examples include:

  • Strategic review of three year corporate strategy for supporting research into Cancer prevention and control.  The Cancer Council NSW (TCCN) required a review of its 3 year strategy for supporting research into Cancer prevention and control. The recent establishment of the NSW Cancer Institute potentially duplicated the traditional approach TCCN had taken, and it was felt a comprehensive review would be beneficial.
  • The Cancer Council SA (TCCSA) has invested in researchers in SA for many years, but was unsure what impact this was delivering.  TCCSA had resolved to refocus the organisation around a "research flagship" and required a strategy to invest a more significant amount in cancer research.  Pacific Strategy Partners assisted TCCSA in developing their research strategy on a pro-bono basis.
  • Development of a business case for a cancer screening strategy
  • Developed economic model of intervention into liver cancer rate in South-West Sydney
  • Facilitation of development of new research strategy. Read more about this in our Featured Thinking article.
  • Development of research prioritisation process for TCCSA
  • Development of strategies for cancer prevention and supportive care
  • Development of an economic model to support the proposed "B-Positive" Hepatitis B screening program

An Australian BioBank Foundation

The current approach to biospecimen storage in NSW is ad hoc, compared with collaborative approaches in Victoria and WA, but really requires an Australia-wide approach given the greater utility of larger datasets.

Cancer Council Research Strategy - Case Study

The Cancer Council SA (TCCSA) had resolved to refocus the organisation around a "research flagship" and required Pacific Strategy Partners to assist in developing a strategy to invest a more significant amount in cancer research.
