Case Study - Cancer Council - Prevention & Care Strategies


Client Situation

The Cancer Council South Australia (“TCCSA”) wanted to develop a strategy for Cancer Prevention and Supportive Care in South Australia.

As a long-term advisor, Pacific Strategy Partners was entrusted with preparing a sustainable prevention and supportive care investment strategy to reduce the burden of cancer in South Australia.



Approach

Working on a pro-bono basis, Pacific Strategy worked closely with the TCCSA to build a factbase on cancer prevention and support in South Australia.

  • Prevention:
    • PSP commenced by developing a clear and agreed understanding of the burden of disease on cancer in South Australia.
    • Prevention strategies were identified.
    • Prevention workshops were conducted to build a common understanding of the issues
    • Prioritisation process was established.
  • Supportive Care:
    • Needs analysis was conducted to understand what services were required and by whom in SA.
    • Prevention workshops were conducted to build a common understanding of the issues.
    • Prioritisation process was established.


Impact

  • The TCCSA was provided with a detailed report on how to invest in prevention and supportive care initiatives to reduce the burden of cancer in South Australia.
  • The TCCSA Research Strategy was formally endorsed by the Board and is currently being implemented.
