A Healthier Future for all Australians

We commend the National Health & Hospitals Reform Commission (NHHRC) for producing a comprehensive review of the issues and options facing the Australian health system. While we support the overarching themes of the report, we would like to provide feedback on selected reform directions:

1. Taking Responsibility - Healthy Australia 2020 goals should be quantified by disease and linked to specific, actionable initiatives
2. Connecting Care - Personal electronic health information should be controlled by the consumer and accessible via a smart card
3. Facing Inequalities - Denticare Australia should be modelled on Medicare's success and integrated with the Medicare infrastructure
4. Driving Quality Performance - Continuous improvement should address both high level system design and microeconomic reform. Please also see our "Open Submission to the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission" for morebackground on these suggestions.
